John Onopchenko
Managing Director
John Onopchenko is a co-founder of Synergy Life Science Partners. Prior to co-founding
Synergy, John was Vice President and lead medical device investor with Johnson & Johnson’s
venture capital subsidiary, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation (“JJDC”).
Additionally, John served on the Management Committee of JJDC. His portfolio company
realizations include: Epicor, Novacept, Digirad (NASDAQ: DRAD), Genyx, Nuvasive (NASDAQ: NUVA),
Vascular Control Systems, Vivant Medical and Volcano Corporation (NASDAQ: VOLC).
Over the last 25 years, as an operating leader for both General Electric and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ),
John has progressively increased his management responsibilities through the successful development and
commercialization of six new-to-the world technologies including surgical stapling, endoscopic surgical
devices, surgical lasers, magnetic resonance imaging/spectroscopy and gas plasma sterilization. His
global leadership experiences include general management, business and product development, operations,
manufacturing, marketing and sales management.
John currently serves as a member on the Board of Directors of: BaroSense, InnerPulse, Oraya Therapeutics, TransEnterix and Volcano Corp.
John received his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and completed the
Advanced Management Program at Oxford. John is a member of the Licensing Executive Society and a
registered representative with the National Association of Securities Dealers.
